PR Newswire (US)
Siemens' portfolio of innovations and workflow solutions take
center stage at RSNA 2008 CHICAGO, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/
-- At the 94th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the
Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, November
30 to December 5, Siemens Healthcare
(http://www.siemens.com/healthcare) will demonstrate its latest
diagnostic imaging innovations in computed tomography, mammography,
magnetic resonance, molecular imaging, ultrasound, and much more at
the Siemens booth (Booth #922, East Building/Lakeside Center, Hall
D). (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20070904/SIEMENSLOGO
) "There is huge potential to increase the quality and efficiency
of healthcare through technological innovation and workflow
improvements," said Hermann Requardt, CEO, Siemens Healthcare
Sector. "Since 1847 Siemens is renowned for its unrivaled strength
in research and development, resulting in the leadership position
we hold today. As the world's leading integrated technology
company, Siemens brings unparalleled innovations to the medical
industry." Taking center stage at the booth, Siemens'
Innovations@RSNA launch area will feature a theater where
attendees, through interviews with Siemens' experts, can learn more
about the latest technologies and how they are shaping the
industry. Interviews are scheduled to take place every half hour
while the exhibit hall is opened. "Siemens' technology is designed
to help our customers become successful and achieve their goals,"
said Dr. Bernd Montag, CEO, Imaging & IT Division, Siemens
Healthcare Sector. "By dovetailing our technological expertise and
engineering excellence with our deep clinical insights and a
fundamental understanding of the business needs of healthcare
providers, Siemens continues to deliver groundbreaking innovations.
Healthcare providers around the world trust Siemens and our
solutions, and have helped us achieve a market-leading position in
diagnostic imaging." The Innovations@RSNA launch area will showcase
the following technologies: Computed Tomography Siemens introduces
the SOMATOM(R) Definition Flash, a new dual-source CT that requires
only a fraction of the radiation dose that systems previously
required to scan even the tiniest anatomical details faster than
ever before. The fastest scanning speed in CT (i.e., 43 cm/s) and a
temporal resolution of 75 ms, enable complete scans of the entire
chest region in just 0.6 seconds. Also, the SOMATOM Definition AS
platform introduces a further expansion with its new 20-slice
configuration, a large 31-inch (78 cm) gantry bore, optional 660
pounds (300 kg) patient weight capacity and high-scan speed,
designed perfectly for high-patient throughput. Magnetic Resonance
Siemens' latest innovation in MRI, the MAGNETOM(R) Espree - Pink,
is a dedicated MR breast scanner which combines the Open Bore
design of the MAGNETOM Espree with the Sentinelle Vanguard for
Siemens, a breast coil solution that offers exceptional breast
imaging and biopsy access. Enabling feet-first and head-first
positioning and excellent access to perform biopsies, the system
has unparalleled openness with a 70 cm Open Bore and the shortest
system on the market (125 cm) for increased comfort. This MR system
provides a comprehensive portfolio of routine and advanced
applications for breast care, including syngo(R) VIEWS for routine
imaging, syngo GRACE for spectroscopy, and syngo BLADE for
motion-free imaging results. Mammography One of Siemens latest
technologies now under development and highlighted in the
Innovations@RSNA area is its full-field mammography, breast
tomosynthesis(1), a 3D imaging technology that acquires 2D
projection images of a compressed breast at multiple angles during
a sweep of the X-ray tube. Poised to enhance mammography, the new
technology will take the two-dimensional images and reconstruct
them to reveal depth - the third dimension of anatomy.
Tomosynthesis slices have the potential to show tumors that remain
invisible in individual images. Molecular Imaging Continuing its
leadership in molecular imaging innovation, Siemens showcases
Biograph(TM) mCT, the only integrated imaging device to offer
routine, whole-body PET scanning in just five minutes, and enables
both molecular imaging and radiology to take advantage of its large
bore capacity, ultra high-definition technology, combining HD-PET
and time-of-flight (TOF), and advanced CT capabilities with up to
128 slices, a first in integrated imaging. Biograph mCT with ultra
HD-PET technology is the world's only PET system that offers 2 mm
uniform resolution throughout the field of view (FOV), coupled with
enhanced contrast with reduced noise, compared to standard PET
acquisitions because of the addition of TOF technology. Biograph
mCT adapts to virtually all patient types and clinical needs.
Ultrasound Siemens will also demonstrate the capabilities of the
ACUSON S2000 (TM) Automated Breast Volume Scanner (ABVS)(2), the
world's first multi-use, automated volume breast ultrasound system.
The ACUSON S2000 ABVS system automatically and quickly acquires
full-field sonographic volumes for comprehensive review and
diagnosis of the breast streamlining workflow and reducing operator
dependence and variability. The system also features the intuitive,
anatomical coronal plane not available using conventional
ultrasound. This view provides a more understandable representation
of the global anatomy and architecture of the breast.
Semi-automated reporting and comprehensive BI-RADS(R) reporting
capabilities further enhance the clinical workflow. Other
innovations highlighted at the Siemens booth at RSNA 2008 include:
Angiography, Fluoroscopy & X-ray New to the Artis zee(R) family
is syngo iFlow(3), which, for the first time, shows dynamic
information using color in a single image for assessment, enhancing
neurological post-therapeutic interventions for rapid evaluation of
remaining abnormalities by comparing pre- and post- imaging
sequences. Siemens will also highlight the recently FDA-cleared
Ysio(TM), a digital radiography system that combines integrated and
wireless mobile detector technology into one flexible solution.
Siemens will also introduce three new components to the AXIOM
Luminos dRF, a fully-digital 2-in-1 solution with dynamic flat
detector for remote controlled fluoroscopy and digital radiography
that helps future-proof customers' investment. The new
functionality, represented in product simulations, includes the
first-to-market wireless detector, a ceiling-mounted X-ray tube,
and new wall stand. Image & Knowledge Management Siemens will
highlight workflow enhancements and demonstrate role-based portals,
innovative applications and intelligent information systems. syngo
Portal Executive(4), for example, is designed to support proactive
management of issues relevant to executives and managers. With
syngo Portal Transcriptionist(5), Siemens helps transcriptionists
achieve greater efficiency and accuracy when transcribing and
correcting reports. Many new enhancements were made to syngo Portal
Radiologist, as well as syngo Portal Referring Physician(5). With
syngo Suite Essential(6), Siemens offers a comprehensive and
cost-effective IT package for Diagnostic Imaging Centers,
consisting of preconfigured software, hardware, and services. (1)
