The following is a preliminary announcement of the result of the Company's 
operations for the year ended 31st March, 2001:

No dividend has been recommended by the Board of Directors on the paid-up share 
capital of the Company as on 31 March, 2001. As already advised, the Register of
Members of the Company at Calcutta will remain closed from 22 December 2001, to 
28 December 2001 both days inclusive, and during this period registration of 
transfer of shares will remain suspended.

We would further advise that the Twenty-third Annual General Meeting of the 
Company will be held on Saturday, 29 December, 2001 at 'Science City Main 
Auditorium', JBS Haldane Avenue, P.O. G. K. Road, Kolkata 700 046, Necessary 
statutory permission under Section 166 of the Companies Act, 1956 for holding 
the meeting on the aforesaid date has already been obtained. A copy of the press
notification is attached herewith.

                              NOTICE

As already advised, the Register of Members of the Company at Calcutta will 
remain closed from 22nd December, 2001 to 28th December, 2001, both days 
inclusive, in connection with the Twenty-third Annual General Meeting of the 
Company to be held on Saturday, 29 December, 2001, at 'Science City Main 
Auditorium', JBS Haldane Avenue, P.O. G. K. Road, Calcutta 700 046. Registration
of transfer of shares of the Company will remain suspended during this period.
