                                 Trading Update


Prior to entering the close period in respect of its preliminary results for the
year ended 30 March 2003, the Board of Speedy Hire is today issuing a trading
update in accordance with previous practice.

The Group has made good progress in the year ended 30 March 2003.  Trading has
been in line with management expectations and like-for-like sales for the 11
months to the end of February 2003 were up 7%.

We continue to operate in a solid trading environment.  The Board believes that
Speedy Hire continues to gain market share and is confident about the outlook
for the year as a whole.

The provisional date for the announcement of Speedy Hire's preliminary results
is 11 June 2003.
