AmSouth Bank (NYSE: ASO) in response to the overwhelming and
deepening human need in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina is
automatically deferring consumer and small business loan payments
for up to 60 days for customers in any county designated for

the impacted areas, an automatic payment deferral will be processed
for: -- Installment and revolving loans -- Mortgage loans -- Lines
of credit -- Home Equity Loans -- Small business loans and lines --
AmSouth credit cards Customers who choose to make their scheduled
payments will have those payments applied in normal fashion. The
bank is also making its AmSouth Lifeline Line of Credit (LOC), a
$10,000 unsecured line of credit, available to qualified customers
severely impacted by the hurricane. The AmSouth Lifeline LOC will
allow payments of interest- only for the first year and can assist
customers with temporary cash needs. Customers needing the AmSouth

area will be given priority handling. In all cases, interest on

the normal fashion. AmSouth also recognizes that circumstances such
as those caused by Hurricane Katrina can result in unintended
situations where customers may find their accounts overdrawn. The
bank encourages its customers to contact AmSouth to discuss those
situations. AmSouth continues to respond to the needs of all
residents impacted by Hurricane Katrina by waiving its ATM fee for
customers using other banks' ATMs in the affected areas. Except for
branches in the hardest hit areas, AmSouth continues to open more
of its branches in the impacted areas daily. AmSouth will update
the status of its branches on www.amsouth.com under the Hurricane
