BOSTON, March 5,
2025 /PRNewswire/ -- School on Wheels of
Massachusetts (SOWMA), a
nonprofit dedicated to providing educational programs and support
to homeless and underserved students throughout the
Commonwealth, today announced the appointment
of Athena
Giannaros as Executive Director. A passionate
advocate for educational equity, Athena has been a key leader at
the organization for more than a decade, most recently as Board
Chair.
With extensive experience in nonprofit governance, strategic
planning, and partnership development, Athena is well-positioned to
lead SOWMA into its next phase. As Executive Director, she will
oversee daily operations and drive efforts to scale programs and
build community partnerships, ensuring that homeless students
across Massachusetts have access
to quality education and opportunities.
Athena has helped scale the tutoring, mentoring and customized
backpack programs from the nonprofit's humble beginnings in her
hometown of Brockton, Massachusetts. Today the organization supports
thousands of students throughout Massachusetts.
Athena has volunteered with SOWMA extensively, tutoring at
family shelters and mentoring at-risk youth. Athena holds a
Bachelor's in International Relations from Boston College and is fluent in Greek. She lives in
Hingham with her husband and three
children.
"We're thrilled to have Athena lead SOWMA," said Board Chair
Spencer Collier. "Her leadership
will be invaluable as we expand services and work towards a
brighter future for all students despite their circumstance."
