The Company was notified today that BriTel Fund Trustees Limited, The Trustees
of the BT Pension Scheme had a material interest of 1,159,518 ordinary shares on
9 March 2005 representing 3.319 per cent. of the issued share capital of the
Company.

These ordinary shares are held in the registered name of BriTel Fund Nominees
Ltd.
