ANGKOR GOLD CORP. (TSXV:ANK)
("ANGKOR" or
the "CORPORATION") is pleased to announce that Mr. Robert
Neill, B.A., M.B.A. has been appointed to the Corporation's Board
of Directors.
For the past three years, Mr. Neill (Bob) has been the VP of
Business Development and Country Manager of Grupo de Bullet, S.A.S,
("Bullet") a mineral exploration company based out of Colombia that
has been operating more than 20 years and successfully follows a
project / prospect generator business model. Since 2012, Bob has
also been a director of Trident Gold Corp. and Sabre Metals – both
companies operating land acquired from Bullet. In addition, Bob has
more than five years experience as a consultant in the energy
sector and with Deloitte as a strategy and operations consultant.
Bob has travelled and spent time in Cambodia.
Mike Weeks, Angkor's CEO and Chairman, commented, "The
appointment of Bob to our Board of Directors confirms our
transition to become a project generator, which we initiated in the
summer of last year. We're very pleased with the strategic deals we
announced in January 2013 and we're working hard to deliver more
deals in 2013. Bob brings experience and energy from an established
company in an emerging country and from one of the most successful
operators of this business model. He's a great fit and we're
looking forward to the opportunities and insights he will bring to
our team."
The appointment of Bob Neill to Angkor's Board of Directors is
subject to the approval of the TSX Venture Exchange.
Angkor is also pleased to announce that Francis Farraye, M.D.,
M.Sc., has been appointed a Special Advisor to Angkor's Board of
Directors and will also be appointed as a director of the ANK
Foundation, Angkor's newly formed non-profit entity. The ANK
Foundation will undertake community development projects in
cooperation with Angkor Gold.
Dr. Farraye (Frank) is a Professor of Medicine at Boston
University School of Medicine in Boston, MA where he is the
clinical director in the Section of Gastroenterology at Boston
Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of
Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology and several other
gastrointestinal societies. His clinical pedigree speaks for
itself, having authored over 300 scientific papers, chapters,
reviews and abstracts. He is a frequent speaker and lecturer
throughout the United States and has lectured in Ireland and Spain.
Francis sits on several boards of medical and non-profit
organisations. In 2003, he was named Humanitarian of the Year by
New England Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
Delayne Weeks, Angkor's VP Corporate Social Responsibility,
emphasised, "Frank's appointment as a Special Advisor to our Board
and with a focus on our sustainability program in Cambodia
underlines how important our community work is to us: it is a core
part of our business strategy. His dual role as a Director of the
ANK Foundation will help bridge our corporate social responsibility
work with our actual work on the ground. I am thrilled to have
Frank join us – he will help make these communities and this
country healthier and he brings a fresh perspective to the mining
industry. Our Sustainable Community Development program follows the
World Bank Guidelines for Community Driven Development and we are
actively seeking to expand it this year. We look forward to him
visiting the rural communities where we are making a real, positive
difference at the same time as undertaking our mineral exploration
activities."
