DETROIT, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Michigan
legislature today voted to approve a comprehensive energy package
that will move Michigan to a more secure energy future. The package
of bills is the result of months of debate and discussion about
energy policy and the use of renewable energy resources. As a
result of today's action, DTE Energy Chairman and CEO, Anthony F.
Earley Jr. said: "In the face of challenging national energy
issues, the Michigan legislature has taken comprehensive action to
assure clean, affordable and reliable energy for Michigan's future.
"The legislation will be a catalyst for new construction and
energy-related jobs in Michigan. DTE Energy will move forward
immediately with the development of renewable energy projects and
energy efficiency initiatives in Michigan. The legislation has also
provided the certainty necessary to construct new power plants.
These projects will provide thousands of highly paid construction
jobs and long-term employment for hundreds of engineers, scientists
and skilled technicians - just the kind of new economy and jobs
Michigan needs. "This balanced energy package garnered bipartisan
support by the legislature and included compromise by all of
parties involved. It will prove to be a win-win for Michigan
residents and businesses. I congratulate Governor Granholm, Senate
Majority Leader Bishop and House Speaker Dillon and their
colleagues on a forward thinking legislative package." DATASOURCE:
