In response to the tornadoes in Tennessee that killed 12 people and damaged 3,000 buildings, AmSouth Bank (NYSE: ASO) has announced a package of disaster relief offers to assist consumer and small business customers. The offers give AmSouth customers in the government-designated disaster areas flexibility on loan repayments, discounted loan rates, and fee waivers. The company also plans to make a $10,000 contribution to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and will accept individual contributions to the fund at all of its branches. Teams of AmSouth employees will also be dispatched to the affected areas to help with the relief efforts. The special offers for consumers and small business customers in the affected areas are available for a limited time and include: -- Lifeline Line of Credit - The bank is making its AmSouth Lifeline Line of Credit (LOC), a $10,000 unsecured line of credit, available to qualified customers severely impacted by the tornadoes. The AmSouth Lifeline LOC will allow interest-only payments for the first year and can assist customers with temporary cash needs(1). Customers needing the AmSouth Lifeline can call 888-In-A-Snap (888-462-7627). -- CD Penalty Waiver - Customers in the affected counties may have the early withdrawal penalty waived on one or all of their AmSouth Certificates of Deposit, including partial withdrawals. -- Installment Loan Skip-A-Payment - Customers in affected areas who need to apply to skip a payment on their AmSouth home equity line of credit should call 1-800-290-5358. AmSouth Credit Line payment questions should call 1-800-289-6730. Plus, customers with an AmSouth installment loan may apply to skip their next payment with no extension fee by calling 1-800-865-7949. -- Home Equity Line of Credit - Consumers in affected areas may apply for a home equity line of credit with special discounted interest rates(1). These rates are good for the life of any transaction that posts in the first 30 days. Other special rates are available for transactions that post after 30 days. In addition, customers receive a $100 cash bonus with a new AmSouth Home Equity Line of Credit(2). AmSouth also recognizes that circumstances such as those caused by the recent tornadoes can result in unintended situations where customers may find their accounts in an insufficient funds status. The bank encourages its customers to contact AmSouth to discuss those situations. "We want to help our customers and businesses that are located in the affected areas get back on their feet as quickly as possible," said Rusty Stephenson, head of AmSouth's Tennessee Banking Group. "As the 'Relationship People,' we are focused on meeting our customers' needs, particularly during difficult times like these.
