1321 ET - The
size of the market for using satellites to provide connections to mobile devices is a big topic of debate among satellite companies and executives, and those discussions are likely to be further spurred along by Lynk Globals plans to raise
capital by merging with a blank-check company. Charles Miller, Lynks CEO, says his company sees a big market for the service, one that it will be able to access because it has purpose-built technology to address what it sees as the
opportunity. If you start with old-generation satellites, you cant get there, he says. Other companies working on providing links to devices include SpaceXs Starlink, which has a deal
with T-Mobile in place, and Globalstar, which is working with Apple.
1318 ET - A number of companies
building businesses tied to space have struggled to deliver against forecasts made when they were raising money and going public by merging with so-called blank-check companies. Lynk Globals intention to
combine with a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, established by retired baseball star Alex Rodriguez would offer a fresh test of investor demand for such space-related deals. Lynk Global CEO Charles Miller says the company he leads is
more developed than previous space-tied companies that went public via SPAC mergers, pointing to its commercial contracts and technology. We are ready where those companies were not, he tells WSJ.
1316 ET - Lynk Global is looking to generate at least $200 million in proceeds by merging with a blank-check company associated with retired
baseball star Alex Rodriguez, Lynk CEO Charles Miller says in an interview. Lynk uses satellites to provide connections to consumers typical cell phones, who access the service through mobile-network providers. It has three operational
satellites right now and would use funding from the planned merger to build and launch more of them, according to Miller. Lynk and Rodriguezs blank-check company, called Slam, said they signed a letter of intent to combine. Miller says the
companies are targeting signing a business-combination deal early next year.
