U.S. personal computer maker Dell Inc. (DELL) sees "improving visibility" on the hard-disk drive supply situation in the aftermath of severe floods in Thailand but is guarded on the likely impact of the disruption, a company executive said Wednesday.

"We have improving visibility into our supply situation day by day," said Amit Midha, Dell's chairman for Greater China and president for the tech giant's Asia-Pacific consumer and small business division.

"As the supply gets back online...we'll have to make appropriate logistical choices," including alternative arrangements, to keep up Dell's hard-disk drive supply, Midha told reporters on a conference call.

He also reiterated Dell's view that "the hard-drive situation remains complex, fluid and under constraint potentially until (the first quarter)."

Severe floods in Thailand are expected to cause shortages in hard-disk drives--a key component in PCs-- in the coming quarters. Industry suppliers, such as Western Digital Corp. (WDC), have been hurt by the flooding and have said their production would be severely limited.
