Marconi Partners With Bay Microsystems on Marconi's Newly Announced
MPG-1000 Media and Protocol Gateway Bay and Marconi Provide 10Gbps
Media and Protocol Gateway Based On Bay's Montego Internetworking
Processor, Software and Subsystem Solutions PITTSBURGH, Nov. 8
/PRNewswire/ -- Bay Microsystems, Inc., an industry leader in
packet processing solutions, and Marconi Corporation plc (LONDON:
MONI and Nasdaq: MRCIY) today announced a partnership that enables
Marconi to provide its customers with a unique, high capacity
(10Gbps), cost- effective and flexible Media and Protocol Gateway,
the MPG(TM)-1000. Marconi's new MPG-1000 will be shown in the
Marconi booth (#1132) and will be demonstrated in the StorCloud
booth (#1542) this week at the SC2004 High Performance Computing,
Networking and Storage Conference in Pittsburgh. The MPG-1000
delivers support for a variety of secure, high-capacity, high-speed
traffic types, including multi-gigabit Ethernet, enabling mission
critical transport between LAN, WAN, SAN, cluster computing and
multimedia networks. The initial release of the MPG-1000 platform,
planned for early 2005, features 1Gbps and 10Gbps Ethernet services
over OC-48c and OC-192c ATM. The platform also will support
interfaces for Infiniband, Packet over SONET, Fiber Channel, and
SMPTE 292M (HDTV). "Bay Microsystems was an ideal partner for this
project, working hand-in- hand with Marconi from project concept
through final demonstration," said Dave Blakeney, vice president of
engineering for Marconi's Broadband Routing & Switching group.
"Bay's support enabled Marconi to quickly deliver a truly unique,
OC-192c Media and Protocol Gateway platform." In addition, Bay
provided a customized subsystem solution for the MPG-1000 platform
based on Montego(R), the industry's only OC-192c/10G processor
capable of classification, policing, segmentation and reassembly,
and traffic management at wire rate. Bay's unique deterministic,
superscalar, pipelined architecture supports a wide range of
existing and emerging applications and protocols, including
Ethernet, IPv6, IPv4, MPLS, POS, Frame Relay, ATM, PPP, L2VPN,
L3VPN, VLAN stacking, DiffServ and more. "We are pleased to
announce our partnership with a world-class networking company such
as Marconi, and to employ our Montego OC-192c/10G processor to help
develop Marconi's new high performance media and protocol gateway,"
said Chuck Gershman, president and CEO of Bay Microsystems. About
