Regal Beloit Corporation (RBC) announced that it has acquired Melbourne-based Australian Fan and Motor Company (AFMC). The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

AFMC manufactures and distributes an extensive range of direct drive blowers, fan decks, axial fans and sub fractional motors, which are sold both in Australia and New Zealand.

Management asserts that the combination of Regal Beloit’s Fasco Australia and CMG businesses with AFMC will enable the company to offer  enhanced solutions to its South Pacific customers. The company also expects that the acquisition will increase sales by $6.0 million for the remaining 2011.

Earlier, the company had acquired Virginia-based Ramu Inc., a motor and control technology company controlled by the venture capital firm Khosla Ventures.

Ramu Inc. is a developer of switched reluctance motor technology, which is a unique motor design suitable for applications requiring improved operating efficiencies, high operating speeds or high ambient temperature conditions. Further, switched reluctance creates the operating torque of the motor without utilizing permanent magnet materials.

Ramu Inc.'s technology is still in the development stage and has yet to generate any operating revenues. This technology will form a part of Regal Beloit’s energy efficiency motor portfolio.

Management will commercialize multiple Regal Beloit brands by enhancing Ramu Inc.'s current portfolio of multiple patents and patent applications and integrating this technology into Regal Beloit's broad motor portfolio.

Regal Beloit is a manufacturer and marketer of branded mechanical and electrical motion control and power generation products serving markets worldwide.  The company has established manufacturing, sales, and service facilities throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia.
