Doing more than expected, doing the unexpected, committing "random acts of kindness" at coffee shops, sandwich shops, gas stations and at their branches, that's what AmSouth Bankers (NYSE:ASO) across Florida will be doing during the bank's Do More Than Expected Week, June 6-11, 2005. AmSouth is taking it to the streets this week to let Florida's banking consumers experience banking The Relationship People style! "We want Florida consumers to know that we are the bank that does more than expected, that we want their business and we're willing to work hard and be creative to earn it," said Susan Martinez, AmSouth's Florida bank executive. "When was the last time your bank exceeded your expectations by buying your breakfast, paying for your gasoline or picking up the tolls on your morning commute? We've spent more than a decade building a reputation as The Relationship People and this is a tangible demonstration of one of our six core values." Martinez, AmSouth's Florida executive, will be visiting markets across the state this week and participating in Do More Than Expected Patrols to commit random acts of kindness such as buying coffee, buying gas, providing free admission to local attractions for children, hosting customer appreciation cook outs, car washes, and much more. In all, as many as 1,400 AmSouth employees will participate in over 200 events over the course of the week. Some of AmSouth's Do More Than Expected plans for the week include: -- In Tampa Bay--Helping revitalize communities by providing financing for affordable homes on Thursday, June 9 between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. -- In Sarasota--Taking 50 kids from the YMCA to the G Wiz Museum -- In Orlando--Buying gas for 1,000 lucky people -- In Jacksonville--Conducting a food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank -- In Tallahassee--Providing a scholarship to the Challenger Learning Center's Summer Camp program In addition to random acts of kindness in the communities it serves, AmSouth employees will also cover the costs of taking children to museums, planetariums and zoos; providing volunteers to spruce up community centers; conducting financial literacy training for young people to encourage them to save; coordinating food, clothing and toy drives; offering ident-a-kid finger printing services; and working with local animal shelters to encourage residents to rescue a shelter animal through adoption. "Consumers in Florida have lots of choices of where to take their banking business, and for some, now may be the time to be considering their options," added Martinez.
