                       Appointment of Corporate Broker


Costain, the international engineering and construction group, announces that it
has appointed Arbuthnot Securities as Corporate Broker to the Company with
immediate effect.  Close Brothers Corporate Finance was appointed Financial
Adviser last year.

Costain, which is midway through a three-year recovery strategy, recently
announced a strong increase in profit before tax - up 30% at #11.3m - and a
return to UK operating profitability in the year ended 31 December 2002.
