Dish Network Corp. (DISH) is planning to launch a content-streaming service in October in an attempt to challenge Netflix Inc. (NFLX), Bloomberg Television reported Friday, citing a person familiar with the matter.

Dish will run the service through its Blockbuster unit, which it acquired in April.

Premium cable network Starz Entertainment LLC dealt Netflix a blow Thursday when it announced that it would cease providing content to the streaming service at the end of February.

In an annual letter in late April, Netflix told shareholders that it thinks it is likely that Dish would launch a streaming service through Blockbuster.
