SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- JACO Environmental, Inc. of Everett, WA (JACO) and SEG Umwelt-Service/Basis of Mettlach, Germany (SEG) filed a patent infringement lawsuit in Federal Court today against Appliance Recycling Centers of America /California (ARCA). The suit claims that ARCA has been using refrigerator recycling systems and processes invented by SEG and protected by 2 United States patents issued to SEG and exclusively licensed to JACO. JACO/SEG are seeking an undisclosed amount in damages from lost profits and have further asked the court to enjoin ARCA from continuing to use and market these services. SEG is a world leader in refrigerator recycling and has contracts in 14 European countries to recycle over 1.6 million refrigerators per year. JACO is one of the largest recyclers of household appliances in North America and recycles over 250,000 appliances annually for 25 clients in the United States and Canada. ARCA, whose core business is sales of new, discontinued and damaged appliances under the ApplianceSmart name, is publicly traded on the NASDAQ under ticker symbol ARCI.
