The film, which originally opened on July 9 on platform release in Los Angeles and New York, has steadily grown to nearly 1000 theaters and has surpassed studio expectations. The picture was produced for approximately $10 million with Hollywood Studios International's chairman and CEO Steven Saxton serving as an Executive Producer and Joel Newton, AI's Managing Director, as a Co-Producer.

Since making its debut at Sundance, which resulted in an intense bidding war, the film directed by Lisa Cholodenko ("Laurel Canyon," "High Art") and written by Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg ("Keeping the Faith"), has garnered near unanimous praise from everyone from Entertainment Weekly, the New York Times, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, and the Chicago Tribune for its comedic and heartfelt portrayal of a lesbian couple whose teenage children decide to search out and bring their biological sperm donor father into their lives.
