Company Challenges Study Claiming Supplement Companies Mislabel
Products
SALT LAKE
CITY, Nov. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - A recent Canadian
study shows that many popular supplements contain fillers, such as
soybeans, wheat, rice and weeds — items not listed on the label —
flagging the supplement industry's manufacturing ethics. However,
not all supplement companies are guilty of this fraudulent
practice. USANA Health Sciences Inc. (NYSE: USNA), a global
nutrition company, carries a Potency Guarantee, ensuring that what
is defined on the label is actually contained in the product.
Formulas developed in USANA's laboratories use only the highest
quality ingredients and are modeled after Good Manufacturing
Processes.

"We are committed to strict manufacturing standards and go a
step beyond GMP for dietary supplements," says Dr. John Cuomo,
USANA's executive director of product development and technology.
"In fact, we voluntarily follow the stringent GMP for
pharmaceuticals, which means our dietary supplements are
manufactured under the same standards as over-the-counter
medications."
In addition to more stringent standards, USANA obtains
third-party verification through ConsumerLab.com, the leading
provider of independent test results and information to help
consumers and health care professionals identify the best quality
health and nutrition products. USANA products currently certified
through ConsumerLab.com include: Essentials™, Visionex®, USANA®
Probiotic, CoQuinone® 30, Procosa, and BiOmega™. USANA was also
rated No. 1 in Direct Sales Based on Customer Satisfaction in
ConsumerLab.com's 2013 Survey of Vitamin and Supplement Users.
Moreover, USANA tests its products through credible
international laboratories. NSF International —an independent,
nonprofit organization that certifies products to help protect
consumers — and HFL Sport Science — one of the world's premier
independent drug surveillance laboratories — are both utilized in
testing the company's products for correctly labeled ingredients
and banned substances.
"We are so sure our supplements meet the most rigorous
standards, we offer select world-class athletes a million dollar
guarantee*," says Dave Wentz, USANA's chief executive
officer. "Meaning, if any of our sponsored athletes test positive
for a banned substance as a result of taking our supplements, we
will pay them two times their yearly income up to $1 million. No
other company offers this assurance or promise."
* USANA's Athlete Guarantee Program permits select
athletes, some of whom have high profiles and are highly
compensated, to enter an agreement with USANA which states that,
during the term of the agreement, should the athlete test positive
for a banned substance included in World Anti-Doping Agency
regulations as a result of taking USANA nutritional products, USANA
will compensate that athlete two times their current annual
earnings up to $1
million, based on the athlete's personal level of
competition, endorsement, and other income, as well as other
factors.
