CHEMRING GROUP PLC
COUNTERMEASURES DIVISION SECURES $23.5 MILLION OF NEW ORDERS
Chemring Group PLC ("Chemring") is pleased to announce that its US subsidiary,
Alloy Surfaces Company, Inc. ("Alloy Surfaces"), based in Chester Township,
Philadelphia, has secured three new orders totalling $23.5 million from the US
Department of Defense. The orders are for Alloy Surfaces' proprietary special
material infra-red decoys, which will be used to protect US Navy and US Air
Force aircraft and helicopters. Deliveries will commence during the third
quarter of 2004.
David Evans, Chief Executive of Chemring, commented: "These orders have been
secured just as Alloy Surfaces has signed a lease for a second facility in
Philadelphia, which will provide additional manufacturing capacity and will
also accommodate a specialist research and development centre. Following
receipt of the new orders, Alloy Surfaces' order book stands at $65 million -
an increase of more than 300% compared with July 2003. This demonstrates the
vital importance of Alloy Surfaces' special material and infra-red decoys in
protecting military aircraft, and further enhances Chemring's position as the
leading supplier of infra-red expendable decoys to the US Department of
Defense."
Chemring is an international leader in defensive countermeasures, signalling
and training pyrotechnics and marine safety products. The countermeasures
division comprises Alloy Surfaces Company, Inc. and Kilgore Flares Company LLC
in the US, and Chemring Countermeasures in the UK.
