Business Wire
Extended Systems (NASDAQ:XTND), a leading provider of mobile
software solutions, announced today during the Embedded Systems
Conference the availability of XTNDAccess Blue Software Development
Kit (SDK) for Linux. The latest release in a long line of Bluetooth
protocol stack and profile technologies, XTNDAccess Blue SDK for
Linux enables developers to easily implement Bluetooth capabilities
on devices using a Linux operating system. "As a wireless protocol
stack provider for more than nine years and provider of Bluetooth
protocol stacks since 2000, we have been involved in hundreds of
Bluetooth implementations. There is now a definite trend among
worldwide device manufacturers to use Linux as their operating
system of choice," said Nathan Pendleton, VP of Mobile Device
Solutions at Extended Systems. "As a natural evolution of our
product line, this SDK will provide developers using the Linux
platform with an industry-validated Bluetooth solution specifically
for embedded systems developers." XTNDAccess Blue SDK for Linux
runs as a module to Linux kernel version 2.4, enabling developers
to implement Bluetooth functionality without having to be an expert
in the technology. The protocol stacks, profiles, and Linux
integration modules are delivered in source code form and are
specifically designed for developers of small, embedded devices.
Further, the product will be qualified by a Bluetooth Qualification
Body (BQB) from the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) in
September 2005. BQB certification ensures developers that the
protocol stack and profiles have been written in strict compliance
to Bluetooth SIG specifications, ensuring interoperability. For
developers adding Bluetooth wireless communications to their
products, "outsourcing" the core Bluetooth protocol stack
technology from Extended Systems will result in a feature rich and
highly reliable implementation. The core protocol stack
functionality includes support for HCI, L2CAP, RFCOMM, OBEX, and
the Service Discovery, Serial Port, Generic Object Exchange, File
Transfer, Object Push, and Dial Up Networking profiles. Extended
Systems also offers additional qualified profiles such as the Human
Interface Device profile, which may be licensed separately from the
core protocol stack. Additional profile support for Headset,
Hands-Free, and Audio/Video is scheduled for delivery by the end of
calendar year 2005. As with its other products, Extended Systems
will offer a full maintenance and support program for XTNDAccess
Blue SDK for Linux. An online seminar will be offered by Extended
Systems on October 12, 2005, at 12:00 p.m. EST to describe the
product in further detail. Interested parties may register for the
seminar by accessing www.extendedsystems.com/bluelinuxseminar. A
recording of the seminar will also be available after the event.
