Business Wire
Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP), a not-for-profit public health
plan based in Southern California, has selected Dell to help expand
its claims processing capacity as it prepares for unprecedented
membership growth.
IEHP serves more than 620,000 residents of San Bernardino and
Riverside counties who are enrolled in Medi-Cal, Healthy Kids and a
Medicare Special Needs Plan. As a result of federal healthcare
reform and potential participation in the California Coordinated
Care Initiative, IEHP is projected to grow to 900,000 members
by 2016.
Under a managed-services agreement, Dell will help IEHP build
additional claims processing capacity to offset increasing claims
inventory levels and establish processing resources and expertise
for future growth. To improve the quality and accuracy of claims
processing, Dell will implement a comprehensive quality assurance
and audit program, as well as establish continuous performance
improvement targets using Six Sigma strategies and operational
metrics.
Dell is the leading provider of healthcare information
technology services globally, based on a recent Gartner report.1
The ranking, which is based on 2012 revenue, marks the third
consecutive year Dell has achieved the No. 1 ranking for healthcare
services.
Dell works with health plans representing approximately 100
health insurance organizations. On an annual basis, the company
processes more than 96 million claims, handles more than 1.3
million enrollment transactions and manages call centers that
receive more than 11 million calls per year for these
customers.

“Dell’s deep familiarity with our claims processing platform and
the ability to ramp up quickly to meet projected growth needs was a
key factor in the selection process,” said Rohan Reid, chief
operations officer for Inland Empire Health Plan. “Partnering
with Dell will reduce costs and allow us to provide more efficient
service for our members.”
“Medicaid health plans must focus on providing the right balance
of care, quality and cost efficiency in order to be successful, and
the right business and technology infrastructure is critical,” said
Sid Nair, vice president and global general manager, Dell
Healthcare and Life Sciences Services. “We look forward to
supporting IEHP in its mission to provide wellness-based care to
the community it serves.”
