Digital Angel Corporation (AMEX:DOC), an advanced technology company in the field of rapid and accurate identification, location tracking and condition monitoring of high-value assets, announced today that Christopher Gotelli, an American helicopter airlift crew member who successfully carried out a courageous rescue effort last year following an alert by a Digital Angel Corporation McMurdo Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), has been named by the Naval Helicopter Association as the Naval Air Forces Pacific Enlisted Aircrewman of the Year. Of all the aircrew in the United States, only one from each coast is chosen for this honor. Gotelli was instrumental in a rescue effort that saved the crew of the catamaran Eclipse in 2006. As the press reported in January 2006, yacht designer Richard Woods and his 32-foot catamaran Eclipse were caught in a �perfect storm� in the Gulf of Tehuantepec in southern Mexico. With 70-knot winds and 20-foot seas, his small boat was soon in serious trouble - especially once the parachute anchor burst, giving Woods no choice but to run before the massive waves. In danger of capsizing, Woods sent out a Mayday and activated his McMurdo PLB. A few hours later a U.S. Navy helicopter emerged out of the dark skies and dangerous conditions. Gotelli acted as winch man, a dangerous and arduous role. Suspended 100 feet below the helicopter, Gotelli airlifted Woods and his crew to the safety of U.S. frigate USS Ford.
