Still no timeline for CATL/NIO deployment... 18 months?

Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li said in an interview with a local media outlet earlier this month that the funding for the construction of Nio's battery swap stations this year would mainly come from partners. "Others will build the stations, and we will rent them for use and operation, and we will move forward according to this model."

While BYD's fast-charging technology promises rapid EV charging, the power grid's ability to handle the demand is a key concern, potentially requiring upgrades and infrastructure investments.

Installing high-powered chargers and upgrading the grid to support them will be expensive

BYD is also considering energy storage solutions to support its supercharging stations

Using Ultra Fast Charging will come with a premium cost per kWh. Energy companies will charge more for UFC to discourage usage rather than spend billions on infrastructure upgrades.

This real life charging experience will give you some idea of real world vs hype. BYD UFC faces the same real world obstacles as the below example. Just at a higher level.

It cannot. Fast charging damages the battery. Fast charging will put an undeliverable demand on the electric grid of any nation. Charging is not a viable option for urban residents. NIO's swap/charge option is the only way.

CATL with its recent RMB 2.5 billion investment in Nio Power, CATL is expected to gain a 25% stake in Nio's battery swapping business, becoming a significant shareholder reducing NIO’s revenue from NIO Power to 65%.
As other brands utilize the CATL/NIO battery standard NIO’s lower end vehicles will lose their BaaS market uniqueness.

This deal is a lose, lose, lose for NIO’s future revenue.

That math doesn't work....does it Frank? Tesla hasn't hit 2 million deliveries yet and they have been profitable for several years. To reach a 20% gross margin, a significant number of China new EV companies will need to fold. If NIO can hold on while one company a month drops out of competition, it may work out.

I'm with you Frank. I'm not here for the cars, I'm here for the battery swap. It's the only thing that makes sense for BEV's.

They already have several established partnerships to expand battery technology and deliver it to more markets.

I guarantee you the Battery Asset Company and Mirattery isn’t suffering massive losses. NIO is paying them prime $$$ for their services.
Now he is selling off NIO Power to CATL. The billions he has pissed away could have been used to fund a NIO fully owned battery asset and battery asset management division of NIO. NIO will benefit little from the BaaS battery supply and management services.

My outlook was three years for BaaS to pay off.

NIO Power 90% soon to be closer to 50%

I suspect if NiO’s autonomous driving proves to be of value he will form new management companies and sell them off too.

If NIO continues selling its Battery Asset Company and NIO Power percentage of ownership their future earnings will be severely diminished.
My investment in NIO is based on Battery Swap and the BaaS model… not their vehicles.

The amount of revenue NIO will generate from these partnerships is impossible to determine. Everyone wants a piece of the most valuable assets NIO is creating.
