Baloise strengthens top management to ensure continued growth
 
- Olav Noack appointed new CEO of Baloise Switzerland and member of the
Corporate Executive Committee
- Jan De Meulder appointed new Head of the Corporate Division International
- Gert De Winter appointed new CEO of Mercator
- Martin Kampik appointed new CEO of Baloise in Croatia and Serbia 
 
Basel, 29.10.2008. The Baloise Group intends to achieve significant growth in
terms of business volume and revenue over the coming years. To this end, it is
strengthening its top management.
 
Martin Strobel, designated CEO of the Baloise Group, will commence his
appointment as new operational head at the beginning of 2009 with the backing of
a significantly strengthened Corporate Executive Committee. Rolf Sch�uble,
Chairman of the Board of Directors: "We are coming through the crisis on the
financial markets relatively unscathed; we are now putting all our efforts into
shaping our future. These new appointments underline our intention to achieve
significant growth across all our European markets over the coming years. I am
delighted that we have been able to recruit professional and highly competent
executive leaders with people skills, including a number of internal
candidates."
 
The new CEO of Baloise Switzerland and member of the Corporate Executive
Committee is Dr oec. Olav Noack (41). Holding both Swiss and German citizenship,
Olav Noack comes to us from Barclays Wealth, London, where he was employed as
Managing Director and Head of Investment Structuring. His background is in
private banking, and includes positions as Head of Life Insurance at UBS
Switzerland, and appointments with McKinsey & Company Switzerland and USA. Olav
Noack studied economics and political science at the University of St Gallen,
Switzerland. Under his management, Baloise will continue to develop its position
as a leading financial services provider in the Swiss market. Olav Noack will be
joining Baloise in spring 2009. Martin Strobel will remain interim head until
this time.
 
Belgian national Jan De Meulder (53) has been appointed to the Baloise
Corporate Executive Committee as the new Head of the Corporate Division
International as of 1 January 2009. This post has until now been held by the
Group CEO. Jan De Meulder has been CEO of the Belgium-based Baloise subsidiary
Mercator Verzekeringen in Antwerp since 2004. Prior to that, he held a number of
important management positions at Fortis and ING Group. Jan De Meulder holds
degrees in mathematics and actuarial mathematics from the Universities of
Antwerp and Leuven, Belgium. The appointment of the successful and
internationally experienced insurance manager Jan De Meulder illustrates
Baloise's ambition to ensure continued growth in European markets outside of
Switzerland.
 
New CEO of Mercator Verzekeringen as of 1 January is to be Gert De Winter (42),
currently responsible for IT & Organization at Mercator in a managerial
capacity. Gert De Winter has been working for Mercator since 2005. Prior to
that, he was employed by the consultancy company Accenture in Brussels. He
studied economics at the University of Antwerp.
 
Martin Kampik (49) will be taking on the post of CEO of our business units in
Croatia and Serbia as of 1 January 2009. He replaces Dr oec. Lothar Mayrhofer,
who will be retiring in the spring following many years of service as CEO of
Baloise Austria and the successful development of the Group's representation in
southern Europe. Martin Kampik studied economics and has been working for
Baloise since the beginning of 2005. He was already responsible for eastern
Europe in his capacity as Performance Manager and his involvement in the
acquisition of Osiguranje Zagreb in Croatia and the newly established branch
office in Serbia has made an important contribution to the successful
development of Baloise in these emerging markets. In his new capacity, he will
continue to press ahead with plans to expand Baloise into southern European
markets. Martin Kampik's successor as Group Performance Manager will be
announced in due course.
