Total S.A.'s (TOT, FP.FR) Port Arthur, Texas, refinery has a leaky exchanger that is causing a cooling tower to exceed emissions, according to a filing with the state's pollution-control agency.

"The leaking exchanger is being identified, and will be repaired as soon as possible," Total stated in a report to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The leak is causing the Foster Wheeler Cooling Tower to exceed the quantity of reportable emissions of volatile organic compounds, or VOCs.

Emissions are expected to last from Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. local time until 1 p.m. on Nov. 25, during which an estimated 5,000 pounds of VOCs will be released. The report indicated that Area 3 of the refinery is also impacted, but it is unclear how that impacts overall operations.

The company declined to comment as a matter of policy.

The Port Arthur refinery can process 232,000 barrels of crude oil a day.
