Safe-T-sensor for Microwave Ovens in High Demand - First
Production Order Sold-Out
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Pioneering
Technology Corp. of Mississauga,
Ontario (TSX-V PTE), ("Pioneering") announced today that
it's all new patent pending, Safe-T-sensor, the first product of
its kind engineered to help prevent microwave cooking fires and
false alarms, recently received regulatory approval from a
Nationally Recognized Testing Lab for sale of the product
throughout North America.
Customers have been anxiously awaiting this announcement.
Pioneering completed its in-field testing earlier this year and
in recent weeks secured its product listing mark from ETL/Intertek
of Cortland, New York. In
the United States the ETL listing
mark conforms to UL Standard 2017 and in Canada the product is certified to CSA
Standard C22.2 # 205-M1983.
The Safe-T-sensor was developed by Pioneering and is the only
technology of its kind available today that helps to mitigate the
many fires and false alarms attributed to the use of microwave
ovens. The Safe-T-sensor is a patent pending technology designed to
sense and defuse burning and/or smoking conditions shutting the
microwave off before it causes a fire or triggers the fire
alarm.
A soft test launch of the Safe-T-sensor in the fall of 2009 was
met with great success. The product was only made available to
Pioneering's existing Safe-T-element Customer and Distributor base
and orders were limited to small batches for testing purposes.
Pioneering CEO Kevin Callahan
said, "It was important to us that we complete six months of
infield testing with our best Customers and secure a listing mark
from a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab before making this product
available in volume to the general public. Volume production of
this product is now underway and at present we cannot keep up with
demand. To date, orders are coming from universities, the military,
senior's facilities and medical centers across North America."
The product is a natural line extension to Pioneering's
Safe-T-element cooking system engineered to prevent electric stove
top cooking fires. Safe-T-sensor will be packaged and sold as an
accessory item and will also be made available to large retail
channels (wherever microwave ovens are sold) later this year.
Management anticipates that the Safe-T-sensor will deliver
significant contribution to the Company's bottom line going
forward.
According to the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers
(AHAM), there are 90 million households in the U.S. with microwaves
and the number of households that own more than one unit is
growing. In addition, microwave ovens are present in college dorms,
offices, hospitals, senior's facilities, restaurants, convenience
stores and more. Approximately 14 million new microwaves are sold
each year representing a $1.4 billion
market annually. According to the National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA), microwave ovens are involved in 2,100 home
structure fires per year and are responsible for more emergency
room injury visits than any other cooking device.
