HUNT VALLEY, Md., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AAI Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Industrial Corporation (NYSE:UIC), has received a $7.5 million U.S. Army contract to design, develop, and demonstrate the company's new mobile One System(TM) remote video terminal (OSRVT) for unmanned aerial vehicle systems. Of the total contract amount, funding of $3.7 million has been received for initial research and development work on the One System remote video terminal program. AAI will integrate software, electronic modules and other enabling technologies into five initial OSRVT hardware demonstrator units for engineering evaluation by the U.S. Army. The One System remote video terminal will be a small, mobile, manpack- sized, intelligence-gathering system capable of receiving and integrating live video and telemetry data from an array of unmanned aerial vehicles and manned platforms. "The One System remote video terminal will help shape the battlefield by delivering live surveillance images and critical geo-spatial data directly to warfighters in action, equipping them with intuitive situational awareness on which to base immediate tactical decisions," said Steven E. Using the One System remote video terminal, soldiers will simultaneously receive live video and geo-location data in separate windows on their small, lightweight video terminals. A video "footprint" and icons identifying aggressor units, vehicles, facilities, or natural landscape features will be overlaid on a map in the geo-location window of the OSRVT, enabling swift target identification, decision making, and response.
