Explanation of Responses:
(1)	On September 23, 2019, the reporting person contributed 9,317 shares of American Financial Group, Inc. ("AFG") common stock to a charitable remainder trust of which the reporting person is the trustee and of which the reporting person is a beneficiary. The reporting person will report beneficial ownership of all of the AFG common stock held by the trust but disclaims beneficial ownership except to the extent of his pecuniary interest therein.
(2)	The price reported in Column 4 is a weighted average price. These shares were sold in multiple transactions at prices ranging from $107.00 to $107.64, inclusive. The reporting person undertakes to provide to American Financial Group, Inc., ("AFG"), any security holder of AFG, or the staff of the Securities and Exchange Commission, upon request, full information regarding the number of shares sold at each separate price within the ranges set forth in footnote (2) to this Form 4.
(3)	The reporting person will report beneficial ownership of any AFG common stock held by the charitable remainder trust but disclaims beneficial ownership except to the extent of his pecuniary interest therein.
(4)	Shares allocated to the Reporting Person's account under the Issuer's Employee Stock Purchase Plan. All ESPP information reporting herein is based on a plan statement dated as of 12/31/2018.
