Appointment of Lindsay Newnham to review exploration and treatment options for
Renison Bell
_____________________________________________________________________
Murchison United NL ("Murchison" or "the Company") (ASX: MUR, AIM: MUU) today
announced that it had appointed Lindsay Newnham of Newnham Exploration and
Mining Services to undertake a strategic review of the exploration and treatment
options for its Renison Bell operations in Tasmania.
The strategic review will examine the potential for the discovery and
development of other base metal resources on its 47 square kilometre mining
lease and will assess the potential for the co-treatment of nearby base metal
resources utilising spare capacity in the Renison Bell treatment circuit.
The Renison Bell operations have been in near continuous production for over 40
years and are strategically located at the centre of the highly mineralised West
Coast of Tasmania.
Renison Bell is currently treating around 600,000 tonnes per annum of tin ore
producing 6,500 tonnes of tin in concentrate. Renison Bell's treatment circuit
comprises sulphide flotation, gravity separation and leaching circuits with a
capacity of up to 900,000 tonnes per annum and is ideally suited to the
co-treatment of other base metals.
Lindsay Newnham has been operating on Tasmania's West Coast for over 35 years
including a period of 12 years as Chief Geologist at Renison Bell. Most recently
Lindsay has been working for Allegiance Mining NL on the discovery and
development of the Avebury Nickel deposit located approximately 25 kilometres
from Renison Bell.
Managing Director Paul Atherley commented: "Lindsay Newnham's appointment will
enable us to gain a full understanding of the exploration and treatment
opportunities currently available to the Renison Bell operation.
The co-treatment of additional base metal ore is an attractive option for us
whilst tin prices remain well below their long term sustainable range."
