As part of their annual review of employee remuneration packages, the
remuneration committee of Fitness First authorised the Company to grant
options over ordinary shares of 25p each in the Company's share capital to
various employees of the Company, including Nigel Cartwright, finance
director, and Sean Phillips, operations director.

Accordingly, on 25 September 1998 options were granted to Nigel Cartwright
over 40,000 shares and to Sean Phillips over 40,000 shares.  The options are
exercisable between 25 September 2001 and 24 September 2004 at an exercise
price of 234p.  Nigel Cartwright and Sean Phillips each paid #1 as
consideration for the grant of the options.

Following this announcement Nigel Cartwright holds options over 180,000 shares
and Sean Phillips holds options over 200,000 shares.
