Union Pacific Logs Higher 3Q Earnings, Revenue

Union Pacific Corp. increased earnings and raised its top line
by 18% in the third quarter on higher fuel-surcharge revenue,
volume and prices.
The Omaha, Neb.-based railroad company posted a profit of $1.9
billion, or $3.05 a share, compared with $1.67 billion, or $2.57 a
share, in the same quarter a year ago.
Stripping out the effect of a $114 million charge related to
labor agreements, adjusted earnings were $3.19 a share. Analysts
polled by FactSet had been expecting $3.06 a share.
Revenue for the quarter was $6.57 billion, up from $5.57 billion
in the year-ago period and topping analyst expectations of $6.41
billion, according to FactSet.
