Build-A-Bear Workshop®, the interactive entertainment
retailer of customized stuffed animals, announced today that it is
offering support in the aftermath of recent natural disasters. The
Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation is giving $5,000 to aid those
affected by the wildfires in Texas and flooding from Hurricane
Irene and Tropical Storm Lee on the East Coast.
This donation was inspired by a young Guest who reached out to
Build-A-Bear Workshop after witnessing on her local news the
devastating wildfire that was affecting her neighbors only 30 miles
away. Emily S. from Round Rock, Texas emailed Build-A-Bear Workshop
Founder and Chief Executive Bear, Maxine Clark, to ask Build-A-Bear
Workshop for a way to help. She told Maxine how she learned that
the wildfire destroyed over 1,000 homes and 35,000 acres of land in
Texas. Many people lost all of their belongings and were left
without food and water. Emily also thought of the children who
might have lost their favorite teddy bear.
Emily knew she had to do something and that, together with
Build-A-Bear Workshop, a difference could be made for those
affected by the wildfires. At the same time, the East Coast
experienced similar devastation in the wake of Hurricane Irene and
Tropical Storm Lee, Build-A-Bear Workshop wanted to help. In making
a donation, the company hopes to provide relief to those affected
by these natural disasters, both in Texas and on the East
Coast.
Build-A-Bear Workshop and its associates believe in the teddy
bear philosophy of being good people and good bears. Throughout its
14 year history, the company with heart has shared the hug of a
teddy bear wherever needed in local communities and abroad.
"Our hearts go out to the children and families who have been
affected by these terrible events," Clark said. "We are proud to
encourage our Guests to provide a helping paw to those in
need."
Build-A-Bear Workshop has given Guests a voice in supporting the
causes that are important to them, such as children’s health and
wellness, animals, literacy, and has given more than $30 million
through its corporate donations and foundation grant programs to
these causes.
