Berzelius (Nanjing) Co. Ltd., formerly Amprius (Nanjing) Co. Ltd., was founded in 2017 and was a wholly owned subsidiary of Amprius Inc. until February 2022. Berzelius is a developer and manufacturer of high-capacity silicon anode materials. The company introduced commercial silicon anode materials in 2020 and started building a 20,000-ton manufacturing facility in 2022. The first phase of the factory, with 400-ton annual production capacity, was completed in November of 2022 and started to supply silicon material worldwide. This is one of the largest pure silicon anode materials manufacturing facilities in the industry. Berzelius silicon anode materials have been validated in high performance lithium-ion batteries in electric mobility, consumer electronics and other industrial applications.

In theory, both AMPX and Berzelius are mostly owned by Amprius Inc still. For Berzelius' SiCore silicon-carbon material, Berzelius owns the material IP and AMPX owns any IP gained while using that material at the battery cell level (e.g., manufacturing, electrolyte/cathode combos, etc). AMPX also has sole rights to use/distribute SiCore as an anode material in America.

Bottom line: if Berzelius makes the SiCore material (or some other silicon-material) kick ass by doping it with graphene nanotubes, AMPX probably stands to benefit too.

The value proposition for Amprius has always been that they are at the forefront of finding ways to use and commercialize silicon in anodes, whether that be silicon nanowire, silicon composite, or now apparently graphene nantoube doped silicon.

It's the old buy on rumor, sell on news, and they use it to their advantage,

I guess the writer of this article had never heard of Amprius. Especially when they say that "Lithium-Metal, another promising technology that is currently under development, could get to the region of 450 Wh/kg." While Amprius claims to have a "current product range of up to 500 Wh/kg and 1,300 Wh/L energy density."
Seems like the writer didn't do enough research.

This is a very well written article. I would encourage everyone thinking about the electric aviation industry to give it a read. While I may have some difference of opinion on some estimates in the article, the base premise is correct.

Well was I off, or was I off….yea way off.

That is a very interesting number 50,000, out to all those companies for testing, that is some serious testing.

And they are all performing the same testing that Amprius did already, but with validation in mind. It will be interesting to see real world performance results with these batteries.

Amprius’ batteries have been tested and validated by over 100 customers, including major players in the aviation industry such as AALTO Airbus, AeroVironment, BAE Systems, and Teledyne FLIR. The company has shipped over 50,000 batteries since inception, enabling mission-critical applications for its customers.
Financial Overview
For the first quarter of 2024, Amprius reported revenue of $2.3 million, a 244% increase compared to the same period in the prior year. The company’s net loss for the quarter was $9.9 million, compared to a net loss of $9.1 million in the first quarter of 2023.

As of March 31, 2024, Amprius had $39.0 million in cash and cash equivalents, and was debt-free. The company’s current ratio stood at 4.67, indicating a strong liquidity position. However, Amprius expects its capital expenditures and working capital requirements to increase materially in the near future as it continues to invest in the design and build-out of its GWh-scale manufacturing facility in Brighton, Colorado.

Amprius Technologies said on Monday that it signed purchase orders with three electric aviation manufacturers for custom cells from the Company’s 450 Wh/kg ultra-high-energy density platform for battery pack development and qualification.

The custom cells from the 450 Wh/kg platform were developed in collaboration with Amprius’ strategic customers to address their unique HAPS (high-altitude pseudo satellite) qualification requirements and enable them to operate in highly challenging environments.

With greater energy density and longer cycle life than the previous 400 Wh/kg platform, the new 450 Wh/kg cells are the only known commercially available batteries of their kind that can provide enough power and endurance for HAPS overnight stratospheric flight1 applications and enable higher payloads and/or operation in all seasons or at higher latitudes.

Commercialization of these new cells is scheduled before the end of the year.

Must not be spending like I thought they would to bring a robust manufacturing process up to speed with the technology advancements in their battery platform.

Makes me wonder if they approached too cautious and will hinder throughput.

IMO is that they will look to expansion in 2026 to increase output.

To me as a shareholder, no risk, no reward.
