             Mr James McGoldrick appointed to the Board as director

Fitness First plc, the health and fitness club operator, announces the
appointment of Mr James McGoldrick (43) to the Board as director with immediate
effect.


Mr McGoldrick will be responsible for managing the Group's operations in
Continental Europe.


Mr McGoldrick was founder and co-owner of The Fitness Company prior to its
acquisition by Fitness First in 1998 and has been Managing Director of the
Group's German operations since that date.


Christopher Pearce, Chairman of Fitness First, said:


"We are delighted to welcome James McGoldrick to the Board of Fitness First,
where he will play a key role in the development of Fitness First in Continental
Europe.  He has many years of experience in the fitness industry and has been
instrumental in the development of our German operations, which have grown from
6 to 65 clubs and where we are now the market leader.


We have a strong management team in place to further develop the business across
three continents, and we look forward to further consolidating our position as a
leader in the health and fitness industry."
