Appointment of a Director

Fitness First plc (the "Company") is pleased to announce that Malcolm Sinclair
Guscott has been appointed as an executive director to the Board of Directors
of the Company with immediate effect. Mr Guscott has been with the Company
since 1996 and will continue in his role as Property Director specifically
tasked with overseeing the location of suitable sites for new clubs in the
United Kingdom and in Europe.

His has held no directorships outside the Company over the preceding five
years, and has:

(i)   no unspent convictions;

(ii)  had no bankruptcy order against him;

(iii) not been a director of a company which has been placed in receivership
or liquidation whilst he was a director of that company or within the twelve
months after he ceased to be a director of that company; or

(iv)  not been publicly criticised by any statutory or regulatory authority.

Michael Balfour, Chief Executive of the Company, commented: "Malcolm's
appointment to the Board reflects the significant contribution he has made to
the Company's continued growth in the roll out of Fitness First's  'Affordable
Fitness' concept."
