RE: UPDATE - BUSINESS CASE ASSESSMENT AND SASE DEMONSTRATION PLANT

Business Case Assessment

On 9 April 2002 AuIron Energy Limited advised that it was undertaking a business
case assessment for the SASE and Ballymoney projects. Following enquiries from
shareholders the Company advises that the assessment is on schedule and the
Company expects to announce the outcome later this month.

SASE Demonstration Plant

On 7 May 2002 the Company reported that a fire occurred in the SASE
Demonstration Plant at Whyalla.

The Company's insurer, ACE Insurance Limited, has confirmed indemnity in
accordance with the terms and conditions of the Company's insurance policy. The
scope of rectification works arising from the fire is being progressed.

The fire resulted from a particular set of processing conditions that gave rise
to a slag ejection incident similar to those that have occurred previously in
other smelting process plants.

The Company currently expects that the Demonstration Plant rectification works
will be completed in mid to late August 2002.
