MEXICO CITY--Sales at retailer Wal-Mart de Mexico SAB picked up pace in September, growing the most since June with same-store sales helped by a positive calendar effect.

Walmex, as the unit of Arkansas-based Walmart Inc. (WMT) is known, said sales grew 9% from September 2017 to 48.2 billion Mexican pesos ($2.5 billion).

Same-store sales, which exclude stores opened in the past year, rose 6.9% in Mexico, where the company served 2.8% more customers who spent 4.1% more on average per visit. Adjusted for calendar effects, such as an extra Sunday this year, comparable sales were up 4.9%.

Same-store sales rose 4% in Central America.

Walmex operates 3,205 stores in Mexico and Central America. Its sales in the first nine months of the year rose 8.4% from the year-earlier period to 436.1 billion pesos. The company plans to report its third-quarter financial results on Oct. 18.
