SYDNEY--Mount Gibson Iron Ltd. (MGX.AU) Wednesday named Cape Preston Port Company Managing Director Andrew Thomson as its new chief operating officer, replacing Jim Beyer, who is now the company's chief executive.

The miner said Mr. Thomson, who has also held senior operational and management positions with Citic Pacific Mining and Rio Tinto Ltd. (RIO.AU), will start in the new role Sept. 18.
