NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks opened higher on Monday,
with the S&P 500 Index making another run at a record high,
after an accord was reached to avert financial collapse in
Cyprus.
The S&P 500 (SPX) climbed 6.96 points, or 0.5%, to 1,563.85,
less than 2 points from the 1,565.15 high hit in October 2007.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) rose 40.72 points, or
0.3%, to 14,552.75.
The Nasdaq Composite (RIXF) added 12.59 points, or 0.4%, to
3,257.59
Dell Inc. (DELL) shares gained 3% after the computer maker
confirmed it had received competing bids from private-equity firm
Blackstone Group LP and billionaire investor Carl Icahn that could
top one offered by founder Michael Dell.
