Pennsylvania Court Grants Summary Judgment OAK BROOK, Ill., Jan. 12
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Federal Signal Corporation (NYSE:FSS), a
leader in environmental, safety and transportation solutions, today
announced that the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia County,
Pennsylvania has granted summary judgment in favor of the Company
and dismissed claims filed by a Philadelphia firefighter. The Court
dismissed these claims because, although plaintiff alleged he
suffered high frequency hearing loss, he in fact had not suffered
any ill effects from the alleged hearing loss and thus had no
compensable injury. The Court agreed with Federal Signal that such
claims were barred by Pennsylvania law. This development follows
various dismissals of hearing loss claims against Federal Signal
during the past two years. These dismissals include claims
dismissed in New York as a result of a favorable ruling by the New
York appellate court, as well as voluntary dismissals of claims
filed against Federal Signal in Maryland, New Jersey, and Missouri.
Federal Signal remains a defendant in hearing loss cases filed in
Philadelphia and Chicago. In Chicago, Federal Signal obtained a
complete defense verdict in a consolidated trial involving 27
firefighters during 2008 and lost a jury trial during February 2009
involving the consolidated claims of nine firefighters. Federal
Signal has filed an appeal to reverse the 2009 verdict. About
