The German flagship carrier Lufthansa (LHA.XE) has made a new antitrust offer to the European Commission regarding its planned takeover of the troubled Austrian Airlines AG (AUA.VI) to ensure that all competition concerns are met, the European Commission said Tuesday.

The commission will now "market test" this proposal, asking competitors and other affected parties whether the offer is sufficient to remove competition bottlenecks, the commission said in an emailed statement.

Lufthansa has also applied with the Austrian Takeover Commission to extend the deadline by which it has to meet takeover conditions to Aug. 31 from the initial deadline of July 31.
