                               Board Appointment


Woolworths Group plc today announces the appointment of Richard North as a
non-executive Director of the Company with immediate effect.

Mr North, 56, was Chief Executive of Intercontinental Hotels Group plc from
2002-2004 and previously Group Finance Director of Bass plc and The Burton Group
plc.  Previous non-executive Directorships include Asda Group plc, Leeds United
plc, and Logica plc.

Commenting on the appointment, Group Chairman, Gerald Corbett, said:

"We are delighted to welcome Richard to the Board.  He brings to Woolworths
further heavyweight business and technical experience including significant
Retail know-how."

There are no matters to be disclosed in respect of this appointment otherwise
required by 9.6.13 R (2) to 9.6.13 R (6) of the Listing Rules.
