SCOTTISH & NEWCASTLE PLC - SUSPENSION OF SHARES

Scottish & Newcastle plc announces that, in connection with the proposed
acquisition by the Heineken N.V. and Carlsberg A/S consortium, its ordinary
shares have been suspended with immediate effect and will be de-listed with
effect from 29 April 2008.
