U.S. Banker Names National Capital Bank as One of the Best in the Nation

The National Capital Bank of Washington (NCB) announced today
that it was, once again, the only Washington, D.C.-based bank named
among the “Top 200 Community Banks” by U.S. Banker magazine. This
designation is based on a three-year average return on equity (ROE)
as of Dec. 31, 2010.
SNL Financial analyzed the data and U.S. Banker published the
list in its June 2011 issue. NCB’s average Return on Equity was
10.17 percent, which ranked 102nd among the list of the 200 best
performing banks in the country. ROE measures the rate of return on
total stockholder investment or capital. ROE is often used to
compare the profitability of companies in the same industry.
Even more remarkable is the fact that National Capital Bank also
ranks among the best capitalized banks in the nation. Consider the
fact that high levels of equity make it all the more difficult to
attain high Return on Equity.
“Although the overall economic situation remains uncertain, we
feel fortunate to remain profitable and stable. Unlike many of our
peers, our loan portfolio contains no sub-standard credits,” says
Richard A. Didden, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NCB. “We

Just last month SNL Financial named National Capital among the
“Top 100 Best-Performing Community Banks” based on 6 key financial
metrics. NCB was one of the few east coast banks to make the list
and was the only Washington, D.C.-based bank listed.
The National Capital Bank, Washington’s Oldest Bank, was founded
in 1889 and has been managed by the Didden family for 122 years.
