Jennifer Derwingson, a client of Dave Brown, President of Motion Picture Literary Department at Artist International, has helped pen the remake of the 1970s British thriller, "And Soon The Darkness." The film, which she co-wrote with director Marcos Efron, was recently acquired by Anchor Bay in a seven-figure deal and will be released in theaters across the U.S. this fall. Artist International is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hollywood Studios International headed by CEO and chairman Steven Saxton.

A modern take on the '70s original, the update moves the action from rural France to the countryside of Argentina where it was shot. Starring Amber Heard ("Zombieland," "Pineapple Express"), Odette Yustman ("Cloverfield," "The Unborn,"), Karl Urban ("Star Trek," "Lord of the Rings") and Adriana Barraza ("Drag Me To Hell"), the film tells the chilling tale of two American girls who experience a terrifying ordeal after one of them goes missing during their bike riding journey through a remote area of South America.

Raised in the mountains of Northern California, Derwingson is an accomplished screenplay writer with several projects under her belt. After graduating from the USC School of Cinematic Arts with an MFA, she worked as a writer's assistant on USA Network's "The Dead Zone," then sold her first feature, "The Yellow Wood," to Spyglass Entertainment and Stephen J. Cannell. That led to several writing assignments, including an adaptation of the Richard Bach book, "Illusions," now set up at Warner Brothers. As a student, her short film, "Roadside Assistance," played in festivals around the world and earned numerous awards including the Student Emmy for Comedy. Derwingson recently completed the Disney/ABC Writing Fellowship.
