The team was selected by the Denver Public Schools (DPS)
Foundation and featured a diverse group of students from six area
DPS schools who come together to compete under the Denver West
name. In addition to their commitment to the sport, these students
have also demonstrated hard work off the court to ensure that their
schoolwork is completed to the best of their abilities.
“This is such a great group of young people, with high
aspirations and the passion and persistence to achieve them,” said
Elizabeth Roscoe, Executive Director of the Western Union
Foundation. “We’re so excited to give them this amazing opportunity
to let them know that their hard work is being recognized.”
The thirty-eight varsity basketball players from Denver West
High School held a practice session and scrimmage on the Denver
Nuggets Court coached by retired Nuggets player and coach Mark
Randall, and retired NBA player Ervin Johnson. The high school
players were also surprised with tickets to an upcoming Denver
Nuggets game against the Los Angeles Lakers on March 9, where they
will be invited onto the court during halftime.
The “Court of Dreams” experience was in support with Western
Union, who announced in 2017 that it would be the first corporate
jersey sponsor of the Denver Nuggets, further establishing Western
Union’s hometown commitment.
