Level 3 Certification Ensures High-Performance 64-Bit Linux OS on
SGI Servers Meets Global Government and Military Security Standards
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Silicon
Graphics (NYSE:SGI) today announced that Novell's SUSE Linux
Enterprise Server 9 has been certified on SGI(R) Altix(R) servers
and supercomputers to meet security criteria required by the US
Department of Defense and governments throughout the world. SUSE
Linux Enterprise Server 9 on Altix(R) systems has attained
Evaluation Assurance Level 3+ (EAL3+) as determined by the Common
Criteria for Information Security Evaluation. SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server 9 was evaluated under full compliance with the Controlled
Access Protection Profile (CAPP) on an SGI Altix 3700 Bx2
supercomputer and an SGI Altix 350 mid-range server. The heightened
CAPP/EAL3+ certification means that Novell's scalable, 64-bit
Linux(R) operating environment running on SGI Altix meets a broad
range of IT security standards that government and military
agencies require of technology solutions they purchase. These
include identification and authentication, auditing, security
management and cryptography. "Novell is pleased to team with
Silicon Graphics as they add to the growing list of hardware
vendors who are choosing to certify their secure solutions on SUSE
Linux," said Ed Anderson, vice president of platforms marketing for
Novell. "This certification is very exciting for government buyers
who are choosing SGI solutions, as they can be confident in the
security of SGI and SUSE Linux." "Linux on SGI solutions continues
to prove itself as a stable, secure operating system that is ready
for prime time in commercial, research and government
environments," said Anthony Robbins, president, SGI Federal. "The
certification of Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 on SGI
Altix systems further broadens the market opportunity for these
world-class offerings among government and military customers the
world over." SILICON GRAPHICS | The Source of Innovation and
