SBC Family of Companies Becomes the First Telecommunications Provider to Receive Prestigious Ford Q1 Award for Consistent Record of Quality Service SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE:SBC) today announced that the Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has awarded the telecommunications company its prestigious "Q1" status for supplier excellence. This marks the first time that Ford has presented this award to a telecommunications company. Ford's Q1 Award was presented in recognition of a nearly 20-year relationship with the SBC family of companies. Most recently, Ford tapped SBC companies in September 2004 to design, implement and manage Internet Protocol (IP) telephony services for approximately 50,000 employees in 110 locations. SBC companies are working to deliver substantial operational savings for Ford over the course of the IP telephony contract, with savings realized through network convergence, as well as efficiencies gained through SBC management of the IP telephony application. To receive Q1 certification, Ford evaluated SBC's performance in three areas: regulated services, managed services and deregulated products. The evaluation included service provisioning, operation, performance and billing. In the case of SBC companies, smooth execution of an extensive volume of work across the country was cited as a major reason for the recognition. "We are honored to receive this award from Ford and proud that they are a valued SBC customer," said Bob Ferguson, group president and CEO of SBC Enterprise Business Services. "We have a robust suite of services that we provide to Ford, and we have made great customer service our top priority throughout our 20-year relationship. We look forward to continuing this tradition as we help Ford to evolve their communications platforms to new-generation technologies, like IP telephony." The award -- along with a Q1 plaque and flag -- was presented to the SBC family of companies by Ford Chief Information Officer Marv Adams and Purchasing Manager Dana Zugay. The Q1 flag will fly over SBC facilities in Michigan. SBC companies today offer a comprehensive range of data and voice networking services for businesses of all sizes. In addition to the SBC PremierSERV(SM) IP Telephony Advantage platform, the extensive SBC IP portfolio includes a network-hosted IP telephony option as well as options for businesses looking to add some of the features of IP telephony to existing networks.
