Repointed PAS-8 Beam Opens Market to DTH, Broadcast, Broadband,
VSAT and SNG Customers SYDNEY, Australia, April 17
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PanAmSat (NYSE:PA) today announced that
it had repointed a beam on the PAS-8 Pacific Ocean Region satellite
to effectively reach every corner of New Zealand, New Caledonia and
Fiji. The Company recently received authorization from the FCC to
redirect the Ku-band South East Asia beam of the PAS-8 Satellite to
cover the southwest Pacific, thus opening up these markets for
additional PanAmSat services. PanAmSat will commence providing
service on this beam from April 15, 2006. "Thinking innovatively is
a PanAmSat trademark -- we saw a need and solved the problem. By
making an adjustment on our powerful PAS-8 satellite, we can now
service our many customers who have wanted to reach New Zealand,
New Caledonia and Fiji on our fleet. Broadcast television, VSAT
services, broadband, emergency response, disaster recovery and
satellite news gathering will all be available through the
satellite's far-reaching, impressive footprint," said David Ball,
vice president, Asia Pacific. "And for the many multi-cultural
viewers in these countries, we will be able to deliver a wide array
of ethnic programming through our PanGlobal TV DTH platform,
already a success in neighboring Australia." PAS-8 is home to some
of the best-known broadcasting and cable television networks
including: TVB, ABS-CBN, Turner Broadcasting, ESPN, CCTV, CNBC
Asia, Discovery Networks and NHK. In addition, the spacecraft is
the delivery platform for PanGlobal TV, which provides programmers
immediate access to an established and growing Australian DTH
neighborhood. PanGlobal TV is a joint marketing alliance between
PanAmSat and GlobeCast Australia. PAS-8 provides video,
telecommunications and Internet access throughout the Asia-Pacific
region, including a high-power C-band beam that stretches from
Bangladesh to the western United States. The satellite also
contains high-power Ku-band spot beams that cover Australian,
Northeast Asia and now the Southwest Pacific, C-band and Ku-band
customers are both able to use the PanAmSat teleport in Napa,
Calif. to send signals directly to Asia or to receive PAS-8 signals
in the United States for onward transmission over other PanAmSat
